I’m going to my first IATEFL annual conference next week, and inspired by an idea I saw today (for link see bottom of post), and summoning up my knowledge of conferences in general, I’ve made you some IATEFL Conference Bingo Cards to cut out and take with you.

There’s an empty grid for your own ideas too.

 

IATEFL Bingo Cards

Person talking about the good old days of the 1980s in loud voice

Presenter who mentions a book they have written on the subject

Person at bar surrounded by admirers.

Presenter who opens with the words, “My name’s …. , in case anybody doesn’t know me”

Beard with sandals

New dress

 

New suit

New iphone6

Broken wine glass

Queue for toilets

Person who snubs you because they are “really busy”

Person who is nicer than you expected

Person who doesn’t recognize you from your social networking picture

Presenter who  apologizes for their age near the beginning of their talk

Presenter whose PPT cartoon has no clear relevance to their subject

Presenter whose storytelling anecdote has no clear relevance to their subject Person who mentions  a collaboration for the umpteenth time (without anything ever coming of it)

Person who doesn’t want to give you a business card

Buzzword: “creative”

Buzzword: “passionate”

Technical problems at beginning of talk

Buzzword: “exciting/ excited”

Person who stands by the free buffet all the time

Person who claims to get large contracts as a result of attending conferences

Person trying to sell you their product, no matter how inappropriate it is to your work

Person who talks about their upcoming projects

Presenter whose storytelling anecdote has no clear relevance to their subject Person who asks questions in sessions that nobody understands the relevance of.

Person who talks about self without without asking any questions back

 Buzzword: “passionate”

Presenter who mentions a book they have written on the subject Person who can remember every single conference they have attended

Person who name-drops constantly (EFL or non EFL names)

Big name who is also a really nice person

Person who doesn’t seem to intend to attend any talks at all Person who likes to talk about all the countries they are invited to speak in

Person who stands by the free buffet all the time

Buzzword: “creative”

Person who raids the publishers’ stands for freebies

Person who tells you they are “really busy” with “lots of projects” when you ask them how they are Presenter whose storytelling anecdote has no clear relevance to their subject

Person who offers to walk you back to your hotel or room too readily for your liking

Person who returns to their hotel or room straight after the sessions

Phone call during a session

 

Person who goes out at night and always misses the morning sessions

Person who says that conferences are for networking only

 

You attend a talk with no reference to digital/blended learning  at all

 

Your feet hurt and you are overdressed

You do not get a chance to talk to the person you have been have been making plans to meet all year
